Whether you currently own one, or have come to us for a Whirlpool dryer repair previously, this latest news regarding the laundry appliances may be important for you to know.
According to the BBC, the UK government has issued an ‘unprecedented’ recall notice on Whirlpool dryers, which may pose a fire risk. It’s believed that the fault, first warned about four years ago and affecting Hotpoint, Creda and Indesit dryers, could mean the recall of as many as 500,000 machines.
The fault, which needed to be repaired by a specialist, has been linked to at least 750 fires over an 11 year period, the government warned.
Whirlpool have said that safety is its number one priority, and have asked anyone who thinks they may be affected to call 0800 151 0905. A spokeswoman said: “In the meantime, anyone with an affected dryer that has not been modified should unplug it and not use it until the modification has been completed.” So, if you have had one of our engineers out to look at your appliance in that time to modify the machine, Whirlpool is satisfied that this will take the risk out of using the machine – however, if you’re unsure, it’s worth taking the time to investigate.
According to the Office for Product Safety and Standards, Whirlpool needs to improve their risk management and also find more ‘creative’ ways to raise this issue with consumers who may be unaware that such a fault exists and that are continuing to use faulty machines in their own homes.
